Reviews
I booked the George Hotel as a friend of mine had visited earlier this year, however after I booked I read the reviews and I was a bit apprehensive, hence the reason I am leaving this review. Overall our stay was pleasant and satisfactory. The hotel is in a great location and situated quite close to the train station. Hotel cleanliness is good and I highly recommend the breakfast - great value for money. Most of the staff are very nice, especially the guy at reception who checked us in (the blonde lady at reception would do with some smiling and people skills though!). The only downfall is that there is no lift.
Great weekend had at the George Hotel. The room was lovely and just what we were looking for, breakfast was spot on each morning and the staff were friendly and happy to help with anything, especially Natalia she was a life saver.
I would stay here again if I was back in London. The hotel is in a great location and walking distance from a lot of the the tourist hot spots.
No way to put a sign telling housekeeping to not come in, and alas housekeeping threw away my stuff. This is why I don't like having housekeeping because they are too quick and rash, but no choice here. Location is great though. Compared to other places, the room is small given the price, even taking into account the location.
George hotel review
My husband booked a surprise London visit for our 7th anniversary, and chose this hotel because it was close to the theatres and St. Pancras Station. We arrived before check-in to leave our bags, which we were able to do, although there was not a proper luggage store and the bag had to be left in the dining room.
When we checked in to our room, there was only one bath towel and no hand soap, but we told the receptionist and she put them in the room for us.
Generally the hotel seemed nice enough - a little dated, not very convenient due to the building’s age (many flights of stairs up to the room on the third floor!), but otherwise okay.
Where the hotel fails massively is the comfort of the bed. It was horrendous - the mattress was extremely hard and had no give, which meant I was unable to sleep. It gave me pins and needles in my legs, I could not find a comfortable position. I was tossing and turning until 3:52am, when I had no choice but to get up and wake my husband. We tried to find a way of making the bed more comfortable, including lying on all three pillows provided to soften the bed, but nothing could make it comfortably enough to stay asleep.
By 6:00am we gave up and packed our bags, utterly unrested, and went downstairs to find the reception unstaffed and the dining room empty. We waited until the receptionist arrived at 7:05am and tried to explain how unhappy we were that we were unable to get a good night’s sleep due to the very uncomfortable bed. However, she seemed unsympathetic, and only offered a curt “sorry”, and an excuse that lots of people have used the bed without complaint. We asked if we could speak to the manager, only to be told they were not available. We asked if a refund could be arranged as we had not had the service expected, and were told the hotel is only a small business.
The function of a hotel, whether it’s an international chain or a small business, is at the very minimum to provide a comfortable bed for the night; The George Hotel did not provide this, and did not offer any form of compensation, not even a complimentary breakfast (which we had paid for already).
The message is, there are lots of very good hotels in London; this is not one of them. Choose somewhere else where you will have a better, more comfortable stay.
A very pleasant stay with a tasty English breakfast, which would keep you going for the day! We found the location very convenient for our agenda. I would stay there again!
My Husband and I stayed at the George Hotel on the 2nd and 3rd of Sept for part of our Honeymoon . Check in was ok. Room was tiny , no closets to put luggage, no microwave, no fridge, NO AIR CONDITIONING and mind you we were 3 flights up so …
My friend & I stayed over here in May and we really enjoyed our stay in this solid 3 star hotel.
We kindly had our twin room upgraded to a twin double room on arrival. The bed …
The George gets 2 stars, 1 for it's convenient location a short walk from King's Cross St. Pancras, and another for having a private bathroom. Otherwise, The George lacks what most American travelers would consider to be basic requirements …
